I made this quilt in 2008 for a friend to commemorate our twenty years of friendship.

The idea for this design came from the need to reduce a fairly large stash of hand-dyed fabrics.  I chose a basic quilting block, the half-square triangle, to draw attention away from the construction method.  I was trying to create movement with the placement of color and light.  There are over 7800 triangles in this quilt.

The name ‘Topography’ is from the quilting motif.  I used free motion and tried to follow the flow of the colors.  When it was completed it reminded me of a topographical map.

This quiilt was accepted into the 2008 Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival.  It was the first time I had been accepted into a juried show.
